February 2, 2019 11:00AM-3:00PM Lunar New Year at Independence Seaport Museum w/ Kyo Daiko

Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019

Bring the whole family and join us to celebrate Lunar New Year from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about the heritages of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese cultures as we honor the Year of the Pig.
Try your hand at calligraphy with Robert Hsu, test out martial arts moves with Action Karate and Yi's Martial Arts, drum along to a special performance by KyoDaiko, and much more!
The day will be brimming with colorful activities from around the world while cultures are honored:
  • Create your own dragon puppets, which have been a tradition in Vietnam for generations.
  • It might be the year of the pig, but Japanese lucky cat figurines still bring good fortune for the year to come.
  • Test your techniques in the Korean board game of Yut.
  • Build your own Chinese lanterns.
  •  Bring in the New Year with a bang by crafting your own year of the pig drum.
Adult Admission: $17. + $2.67 fee
Children ages 3-12  $12 + $2.36 fee
