The Science of Sound 2: "Groove-able Notions"
Owen Valentine, "The Groove Master", has returned with his funky violin and vocals to bring you an evening of funky grooves and experimental soul.
One Show | Two Sets
London –born Vocalist/Violinist Owen Valentine has performed on major stages in Jazz, Pop, R&B, and other genres around the world. After initial tour work with Sun Ra, Owen went on to perform with George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, George Duke, Gil Scot Heron, Surface, and an array of others. Recording with Hip Hop artists Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, and others, he stretched the sonic possibilities of the violin with electronics and unusual playing techniques. Performances and recordings with a who’s who of Rhythm and Blues include Mary J. Blige, The O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, Anthony Hamilton, and more. Owen's soulful tenor voice, which spans 4 octaves, is paralleled by his 5-string electric violin as he performs on over a dozen instruments of different cultures. He has released 5 recordings as a leader with the most recent, "Transformation", garnishing critical acclaim. Collaborating with Emmy award winning tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith, "Transformation", drew standing ovations at Lincoln Center and Martha's Vineyard amongst the many other showcased venues. Owen's soon to be released "Renaissance" project will showcase his take on the classic old school sounds of the 70's and will feature all live acoustic instrumental arrangements.
