Film Synopsis:
In this ode to community mothers, a female drummer must confront an estranged young man she raised.
Running Time: 12 minutes
Brief discussion and reception to follow.
About the Film:
The film is an ode to mothers, grandmothers, god mothers and community mothers who have attempted to raise boys in a harsh society that presents young men with challenges the women will never understand, no matter how strong they are.
Starring Malika Parker as Mama Jo and Keith Illidge as Brandon, with music by Nasir Dickerson, the short film is textured with the vibrance of African drumming, 'soul speaking' jazz and a cinema veritè quality that blurs the lines between fiction and non-fiction.
