March 2, 2014 7:00 PM Brazilian Maracatu with Nation Beat's Carnival Caravan at Crossroads Concerts

The American/Brazilian collective Nation Beat plays a 21st century mash-up inspired by Brazilian maracatu drumming, New Orleans second line rhythms, Appalachian music, funk and country-blues. It is also the vibrant force of their explosive live show, which is frequently known to burst into crowd-wide Carnival-style drumming and singing. Nation Beat’s audacious energy seamlessly bridges folkloric Brazilian maracatu with classic NOLA roots music attracting an ever-growing legion of fans from across a wide demographic. They’re the first American group to record in Brazil with the legendary Mestre Walter & Maracatu Nação Estrela Brilhante, and the first Brazilian band to perform with Willie Nelson. Borrowing, mixing and adapting musical traditions is at the very heart of Music, and it is the creative and animated pulse of Nation Beat.
