An Afternoon of Acoustic Jazz with
Eugene Friesen and Friends
Sunday, September 11, 2016
St. Martin in the Fields, 4 pm
For the 3rd year in a row, internationally known cellist Eugene Friesen and friends will appear at the Church of St. Martin in the Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a festive performance of contemporary acoustic jazz. The afternoon of music is a benefit for The Children’s Tumor Foundation. Friesen will appear with Trio Globo, a group of artists with roots in jazz, classical and sacred music, and rhythmic influences derived from travels in six continents. Appearing with Friesen will be pianist and master harmonica player Howard Levy, and percussionistGlen Velez who together epitomize the quintessential group for the 21st century. The late Dave Brubeck wrote:“Eugene, Howard and Glen are magnificent players with distinct musical voices. Together they have a fresh new sound and offer a unique vision of the world of music.“
Guest artists are a regular part of the festive performance, and this year is no exception. Friesen welcomes gospel singer Theresa Thomason, and Simon Shaheen a Palestinian-American violin and oud virtuoso and composer.
As musical artists, Eugene Friesen and his friends have been awarded 10 Grammy Awards -- truly an embarrassment of riches. The afternoon of acoustic jazz is presented in partnership with WRTI 90.1 Public Radio -- Your Classical and Jazz Source.
The Children’s Tumor Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and support research and the development of treatments and cures for Neurofibromatosis.
