| Please join us for The 2nd Annual Pennovation Summer Concert outside on the plaza! This event is weather permitting. This year, we welcome Philly legends SUN RA ARKESTRA! Opening the show will be powerhouse percussionists Music Over Matter (MOM). This event is FREE and open to everyone. We ask that you register at https://pennovation-center.ticketleap.com/summerconcert18/ so that we have a sense of how many folks to expect. Please bring your children, friends, family, and neighbors. ABOUT THE ACTS:SUN RA ARKESTRA http://www.sunraarkestra.com Sun Ra (born Herman Poole Blount, legal name Le Sony'r Ra; May 22, 1914 – May 30, 1993) was an American jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, and poet known for his experimental music, "cosmic" philosophy, prolific output, and theatrical performances. For much of his career, Ra led "The Arkestra", an ensemble with an ever-changing name and flexible line-up. Following Sun Ra's death in 1993, the Arkestra was led by tenor saxophonist John Gilmore. Following Gilmore's death in 1995, the group has performed under the direction of alto saxophonist Marshall Allen. This band is not to be missed - a true Philadelphia treasure, and pioneers and innovators of big band, be bop, jazz, electronic music and Afro futurism. We are so lucky to have them in our city!
