November 3, 2015 7:00-9:00 PM Philly Drum Project's "Beats, Brews, and Banter" with Arturo Stable

Beats, Brews, & Banter is a free monthly event that gives local drummers, musicians, and wannabes a chance to network, share ideas, and learn from some of the best drummers in the area. Our guest this month is Arturo Stable, Chair of the Hand Percussion Department at the University of The Arts in Philadelphia, who will be presenting percussion application on drum set in modern jazz. An Open Mic night for musicians, hosted by The Raven Lounge, will follow this event.

Stable was born in Santiago de Cuba. He earned his first degree, in percussion, at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory. He began his career as an educator at the Puebla State University (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla) in Mexico teaching classical and Afro-Cuban percussion. At the same time, Stable pursued a postgraduate degree in music education from the Puebla State Development University. His rapidly expanding talents did not go unnoticed. In 2001, Stable received a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music, where he earned a degree in Contemporary Writing and Production. Arturo also holds a Masters Degree from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Stable was part of the 2013 Grammy Award Winning Album "Money Jungle" (Best Jazz Album) by drummer extraordinaire Terri Lyne Carrington. He has gained invaluable experience performing or recording with such illustrious leaders as Esperanza Spalding, Paquito D' Rivera, Miguel Zenon, Dave Samuels, Jane Bunnett, David Sanchez, Victor Mendoza, Lionel Loueke, Lincoln Goines, Giovanni Hidalgo, as well as with the Caribbean Jazz Project and the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Stable has been granted with several writing commissions along his career as well. Stable is currently endorsed by Meinl Percussion and is also the Chair of the Hand Percussion Department at the University of The Arts in Philadelphia.
