Beats, Brews, & Banter w/ David Uosikkinen (The Hooters, David Uosikkinen’s In The Pocket)
Beats, Brews, & Banter is a free monthly event that gives local drummers, musicians, and wannabes a chance to network, share ideas, and learn from some of the best drummers in the area. Our guest this month is David Uosikkinen, well-known for his 35-year tenure with The Hooters.
David Uosikkinen is a founding member of The Hooters, who have released several Billboard Top 40 hits. He has also recorded and performed with Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Taj Mahal and Patty Smyth, as well as with many other emerging artists. David has performed on extensive international tours, including Live Aid, Amnesty International, and Roger Waters’ The Wall in Berlin. Presently, David leads his own band, David Uosikkinen’s In The Pocket (www.songsinthepocket.org), where he records, what he feels, are the “Essential Songs of Philadelphia.” Uosikkinen is revisiting songs that were recorded in Philadelphia or written and performed by Philadelphians. These essential songs feature a rotating lineup of Philly’s most respected musicians. When David is not performing with the Hooters or In The Pocket, he also plays with Smash Palace and mentors and teaches students of all ages.
Philly Drum Project is a Percussive Collective, founded in 2011, dedicated to making drumming more accessible in the Philadelphia area by helping those in our region share lessons, beats, and gear in an environment where community, creativity, education, and diversity are valued. Beats, Brews, & Banter is held every month and has featured such drummers as Eric Slick (Dr. Dog), Spanky McCurdy (Jill Scott, Lady Gaga), and Fred Berman (Amos Lee).
