Help TIMBALONA travel to Cuba, & use these studies in their teachings and performances back home!
TIMBALONA is a percussion collective focusing on folklore and popular music from the Caribbean and Latin America, established in the year 2010 by Christian Noguera and Andrés Cisneros. As a percussion duo, we have collaborated and performed with artists throughout the U.S. and internationally. We have performed at venues such as the Philadelphia Clef Club, the Kimmel Center, the Painted Bride Art Center, and the San Carlos Institute in Key West, Florida.
Since the year 2010, we have also been working for AMLA (Artístas y Músicos Latino Americanos) as freelance percussionists and teaching artists. Through AMLA, we currently work giving private classes, group classes, as well as individually working in several schools in the city of Philadelphia.
Through our past travels, we have studied with and researched the music of musical legends, more recently in Puerto Rico. From those experiences, we apply what we have learned to our evolving percussion curriculum, used in our residences in Philadelphia's traditionally underservedd schools. Now, we have the amazing opportunity to study concepts and modern approaches of Cuban folkloric and popular music, in order to apply this in future residencies in after school programs, high schools, and colleges. We must raise funds for our remaining expenses though, and your donation would be a tremendous help!
In Cuba, we will have the opportunity to study with legendary folkloric masters, and will be able to incorporate these teachings into the classrooms we teach, both on a youth and university level.
We need your help
In order to achieve our goal of traveling to Cuba in June of 2016, we need your help in raising an initial $7,000. These funds will go towards investigation and research of Afro-Cuban music, master classes with folkloric artists on the island, travel, and lodging in Cuba.
