May 13, 2017 10:00AM-5:00PM Celebration of Black Arts at The African American Museum in Philadelphia

Join Macy’s and Art Sanctuary at AAMP for a day of family-friendly celebration of Black art, history, and culture!


10:00am - 5:00pm workshops, performances, and presentations will be dispersed throughout the museum:

Family Fun Day Activities:

Bregy School (7th graders): 3D multi-media installation titled: "I Don't Feel a Color...I Dream It"
Beckett Life Center & Church of the Advocate: Mothers' Braid 2017. Braided fabric, beads and other media hanging from twine.
Saturday Academy: Video and physical gallery display of student's work, including Protest Signs, Masks and life-size communities
Workshops led by Art Sanctuary Teaching Artists:
Dream Boxes - discover how to capture and display your dreams
Activism in the Arts -- Making your own Protest signs
Vision Collaging Workshop with Betty Battle
Just in time for Mother's Day, making Paper Flowers
Other Activities
Create a letter or image for Mother’s Day, and attach it to our garland
Create a Mother’s Day card to take home with you
1-3pm: Carnival mask-making workshop, led by Carnival costumer Khenti Pratt

9:30am – 5:00pm Literary & Arts Conference:

We will feature some of the region's most talented authors and artists in a plethora of workshops, discussions, displays, and author readings. The day's events will be in conjunction with our Macy's Family Fun Day!

11:30AM—12:15PM: Thesentur: Conscientious Objector to Formalism with Theodore Harris
12:30PM—1:15PM: Poetry Workshop with Nina “Lyrispect” Ball
1:30PM—2:15PM: Protect Your Artistic Work! with National Writers Union
2:30PM—3:15PM: Genealogy 101 Workshop with Regina Vaughan
3:30PM—4:15PM: How Big Is Your World/Revisiting Your Self-Worth: Vision Collaging Workshop with Betty Battle
4:30PM—5:00PM: Closing Author Reading with Liza Jessie Peterson
