May 13, 2017 8:00PM A Night of Funk and Soul with Philly Gumbo and Badd Kitti at WCL

PHILLY GUMBO

Philly Gumbo has been the foremost exponent of New Orleans music in the Philadelphia area for over three decades and perhaps the only band to effectively mix New Orleans R&B, soul, funk, blues, reggae and African music. Led by the soulful vocals of India Rex, the band has been thrilling audiences at major venues and festivals, twice receiving "Best of Philadelphia" recognition from Philadelphia Magazine, with music that is dance-inducing as well as listener-friendly.

"the area¹s tastiest musical ragout of New Orleans parish soul, blues, reggae and dense funk" -The Philadelphia Inquirer

"not just irresistible but transcendent" -The City Paper

"On South St. Philly Gumbo ruled the funk scene when The Roots were mere seedlings" -Vintage Guitar Magazine

BADD KITTI

Badd Kitti lives on her own terms, undeterred by convention. Likewise, BADD KITTI's music refuses to be confined. Her sound can just as easily be infused with Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop or a smooth Jazz groove. BADD KITTI follows just One Rule: Whatsoever it is - It Gots to be FUNKY!

Deeply inspired by Philly's Neo-Soul and Hip Hop scene, BADD KITTI’s music is derived from the classic and psychedelic elements of Funk and Soul at the root of the Philadelphia sound. Audiences are treated to a live show of covers and originals that establish BADD KITTI as authentically 'Ol Skool', yet Relevant - allowing her to create a unique space in the crowded field of the area’s world class bands and musicians.
