May 7, 2017 1:00-6:00PM Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at The Piazza (rescheduled from May 5)


The Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons presents a brand-new open-air Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Get ready to fiesta with live bands, entertainment, dancing, dance lessons, sombrero races, pinatas and more.

Entertainment kicks off at 1:00pm with Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble Crisol. This group is dedicated to the interpretation of a variety of folk and traditional music genres from Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean. The lively performance will range from romantic Puerto Rican Boleros to energetic Mexican Mariachi music to feisty Cuban Sones to sensuous Colombian Cumbias to contagious Dominican Merengues - and everything in between.

We will also have dance performances from Ballet Folklorico Yaretzi - BFY. Ballet Folklorico Yaretzi is a school of dance and Mexican dances. Recognized for the excellent preparation of its students and teachers in PA.

Next, the Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons brings back their monthly salsa night with free lessons at 2:30pm, followed at 3:00pm by an afternoon of dancing to “Fania Forever” from the Siempre Salsa Philly All Stars and special guest Willy Torres Music.

Come hungry and thirsty for drink and food specials from local neighborhood eateries and bars, plus area food trucks. From tacos, to Mexican corn, to five dollar margaritas to beer specials - all of your Cinco favorites will be on hand.

* Revolution Taco will debut their brand new food truck serving up a full menu of inventive and traditional tacos, burritos and chips/salsa.

* Gunners Run is cooking up Shrimp ‘n Rice/Beans, Fried Plantains and Mexican Street Corn. On the bar side, Gunner’s will offer Flying Dog Numero Uno for $4.00, Painkiller (inside fresh coconuts) for $4.00, and Margarita and Mojito Pitchers for $25.00.

* El Camino Real Philadelphia will serve Pulled Pork Sliders, Spicy Chorizo Fajita sandwiches and Patatas Bravas. For drinks, El Camino will pour margaritas for $5.00, frozen pineapple margaritas, Tecates for $3.00, Dos Equis Special for $4.00. Patron Jello Shots, Pina Coladas and other Cinco inspired cocktails.

* Crabby Cafe & Sports Bar will be offering $3.00 Dos Equis
