ABOUT SOTOMAYOR
Sotomayor is the electronic music project with Latin American influence by siblings Raul and Paulina Sotomayor. It is a dance music project that uses rhythms like cumbia and peruvian "chicha" and fuses them with cutting edge beats. Their first LP is called "Salvaje" and it was published in March 2015 by the Mexican NetLabel "Tropic -All ", and the UK label "New Hispanic Music".

Despite the short life time of the project, the innovative sound of the band allowed them to debut in the 2015 edition of "Vive Latino", and in the 6th edition of "Festival Marvin”, and to travel to London (UK) and Bogota (Colombia) in less than a year of existence.

La Banda Elastica (Los Angeles, California), Mute Magazine (Argentina), Rolling Stone (México), Revista Marvin (México), Indie Rocks! (México) and RedBull Panamerika (LATAM) between others, they all choose “Salvaje” as one of the best albums from Hispanoamerica, and one of the 15 “unescapable” album of 2015. The album appeared in more than 25 lists of the best of the year from medias from all around the world including countries like Argentina, México, Costa Rica, Spain, USA and Chile.

Brazilian percussion plus half a string quartet equals a unique, danceable sound. Three surdo drums are overlaid with the versatile and surprisingly deep Brazilian pandeiro, the talkative repinique, and the punctuating snare; rich melodies from the cello and violin/mandolin and tight, three-part vocal harmonies combine into a four-piece lineup never before seen on Earth. Song topics range from tiny pockets to worldly advice.

June 28, 2017 10:00PM-2:00AM Interminable and Los Bomberos de la Calle at Dahlak

After an amazing evening with Bloco Sudaca last month, Interminable returns to Dahlak Paradise to continue exploring afrodiasporic and afromestizo Latinamerican rhythms, this time with the North Philly-based Los Bomberos De la Calle, a "Puerto rican Bomba and Plena music group with a twist of reggaeton flow".

This summer, discover an outdoor concert experience that in-the-know Philadelphians have been enjoying for years. The Penn Museum’s eighth annual Summer Nights Concert Series brings an eclectic lineup of performances—including Creole Zydeco, Calypso, ‘20s Jazz, Middle Eastern folk, and more—to the relaxing garden setting of the Museum’s Stoner Courtyard. Admission is just $10 (free for PennCard holders, Penn Medicine and CHOP employees with ID; Penn Museum Members, and children under 6 years old). Concerts are presented every Wednesday evening, June 21 through September 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

June 21, 2017 8:00PM Sittin' In: Live Sessions Hosted By Maria Grand’s Diatribe

8pm Doors/DJ | 9pm Live Music

It's a jam session, it's a dance party, it's a live show — and it always features the hottest talent on the scene!! Sittin' In is the free, monthly jam session at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Blending edgy horns, choice vinyl, cutting edge MC's and soaring vocalists, each session is unique, led by a stellar lineup of guest hosts and their band of choice.

Saxophonist, composer, and educator María Grand was born in Switzerland in 1992, to a Swiss mother and an Argentinian father. Upon her moving to New York in 2011, she quickly became the protégée of legendary musicians such as Billy Harper, and Antoine Roney, as well as NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman; in just a few years, she became one of the few fresh and unique voices on her instrument. María recently completed her first orchestral work; she has composed for saxophone quartet as well as numerous pieces for her ensembles. She has lead her group DiaTribe at venues such as The Jazz Gallery; Seeds; Three Concentric Sections; Shapeshifter Lab; the Cell; in New York, and AMR Jazz Club and The Walden in Switzerland. She released her first opus "TetraWind" in February 2017. In recognition of her emerging talent, she was awarded one of three of the 2017 Jazz Gallery Commission Residencies, along with young masters Adam O'Farrill and Joel Ross; her new work will be premiered in June 2017.
