June marks the second anniversary of the 2015 mass shooting that devastated Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Legendary trumpeter and Philadelphia Orchestra Composer-in-Residence, Hannibal Lokumbe, has composed Crucifixion Resurrection: Nine Souls a Traveling in honor of the nine victims. Visual artist Steven Prince has created a series of works based on Hannibal’s composition, which will be presented during the performance. On June 15th, Hannibal and Prince invite you to see and hear previews of these historic works at the Bride before they go public on the 17th at Mother Bethel AME Church.
Painted Bride is honored to partner with The Philadelphia Orchestra in presenting these monumental works of art. In the wake of violence, it’s always our hope that we can use the arts as a means to process, to remember, and to heal.
